How to Look After Your Soy Wax Candle
To get the very best from your vegan scented candle, caring for it well is essential. Proper maintenance will extend the life of your candle, so you can stay safe, and enjoy the best possible experience again and again. The candle experts here at House of Cassidy have some simple tips on how to get started, to help you with storage, safety, and keeping candles clean, and burning brightly.
Keep It Covered
When you’re not using your scented candle, it’s important to keep the lid on it. This will make sure the scent doesn’t fade. Because our ingredients are all natural, with no preservatives, covering will keep the fragrance strong for burn after burn.
Burn on a Flat Surface
When you light your candle, make sure the surface isn’t wobbly, and that it is placed far in from the edge, so it doesn’t topple onto the ground, spilling the wax, or risking a fire. We recommend a solid coffee table, mantel piece, or dining table.
Clean the Wax
After you blow your candle out, and the wax has hardened again, make sure any leftover soot is wiped away. This will help your candle to burn evenly the next time you light it, as the weight of any particles can cause tunnelling. Plus, with no excessive fuel from dust or soot, the flame will stay controlled and gentle.
Trim the Wick
Before you light your candle, make sure the wick is trimmed a quarter of an inch above the wax surface. You can trim the wick with a nail clipper or a small scissors if you don’t have a specialist wick trimmer. Regularly trimming the wick has many benefits, including an even burn, and a longer life for your candle.
No More Than 4 Hours
The optimal burning time for our soy wax candles is between 2 and 4 hours. It’s best to keep 4 hours as your maximum burn time for a few reasons:
It reduces the risk of a fire, as it makes sure the flame doesn’t get too hot.
It protects the wax from excessive heat.
No Less Than 2 Hours
If you burn it for too short a time, your candle is likely to tunnel. This happens when only the wax in the middle melts, forming a hollow. Over 2 hours, the wax will melt evenly across, so that the candle stays level the next time you light it.
